Summer in Basel is bursting with opportunities for kids to explore, create, and stay active. Whether your child is into sports, music, crafts, or simply enjoying the outdoors, the region offers a wide variety of enriching programs and spontaneous adventures that turn the school holidays into a season of discovery. These activities are also a great way to help ease childcare challenges during the summer months, especially for working parents looking for safe, engaging, and supervised options for their children.

Robi-Spiel-Aktionen

Robi-Spiel-Aktionen runs several supervised playgrounds across Basel, offering a fun mix of indoor and outdoor play, crafts, and nature-based experiences. These spaces are ideal for children who enjoy social interaction. Most sites are free or low-cost and allow flexible, drop-in participation.
A highlight during the school holidays is the Sommer-Ferienstadt, a pop-up holiday 'city' where children can do arts and crafts, ride bikes and cars or get their face painted. This pop-up city moves between various neighbourhoods in Basel, so make sure to check the website to see where it will be over the holidays.
Sommer Margarethen Kunschti

Also run by Robi-Spiel-Aktionen, Sommer Margarethen Kunschti is one of the best family spots in Basel. This large, fenced-in outdoor area is transformed during the warmer months into a lively hub for kids and families. There’s something for everyone:
Bouncy castles and trampolines
Free-play areas and sports zones
Organized games and creative activities
Plenty of space for scooters, balls, and imaginative play
What makes the Kunschti particularly attractive for parents is the on-site café offering snacks, drinks, and light meals. With shaded seating and Wi-Fi available, it’s the perfect spot to bring your laptop and get some work done while your children play safely nearby in a well-supervised, enclosed space. No need to register and they are open from Wednesday to Sunday.
Basler Ferienpass (Holiday Pass)

A local favourite, the Basler Ferienpass offers an impressive array of workshops, excursions, and special events throughout the summer. From baking and painting to coding, circus skills, and zoo tours, there’s something for every interest. Affordable and inclusive, this program is a great way for kids to try new activities and meet peers.

Familienpass Region Basel
The Familienpass has a tonne of different discounts and offers in the Basel region for museums, swimming pools, restaurants, camps, events, and much more! Offers include the whole family and continue throughout the whole year.
