Activity Groups at Centrepoint

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Do you have a passion or hobby? Practicing it with others can be a great way to socialize and meet new people. Our partners at Centrepoint have several activity groups to suit many interests and this article gives a short description of each of them. Centrepoint allows you to attend an activity group once before you become a member, so be sure to try them out!

Share Your Hobbies and Meet New People

Located in the heart of Basel, Centrepoint has a beautiful space which is the perfect location for its many activity groups. Whether you like arts and crafts, playing games, want to join a book club, a walking group or even go bowling - Centrepoint is the place to be! Here is a listing of their current activity groups. If you are interested in trying one out, please contact the Activity Groups Leader (contact info below).

Creative Activities

Hooks and Needles

Enjoy a good chat over a cup of tea or coffee while knitting, crocheting, cross stitching or quilting, etc. (bring your own materials). We help one another, share tips and offer advice.

Creative Studio

Bring along your latest project and materials (sorry, no oil painting permitted) for our informal art group. We share ideas and enthusiasm, but also give you time to work on your own.

Men's Model Building

If you fancy a chat over a beer about life in general or men’s hobbies in particular, then come and join us. Now and then we also build models.

Photography Group

An enthusiastic group of photographers who share techniques, conduct field trips and mount exhibitions.

Outdoors

Sunday Walkers

Join us as we go for a two to three hour ramble through the Basel countryside. All walks are accessible by public transport.

Birdwatching

This birding group is led by an informed enthusiast who will share his knowledge of birds through the seasons. New and experienced birders welcome, including children.

Games

Bridge for Beginners

Come and learn the basics of bridge in a friendly atmosphere with lots of support.

Wednesday Bridge Club

If you have some bridge playing experience come along and join us to play this interesting game.

Western Mahjong

If you are interested in the game of Mahjong please come and join us. All levels are welcome. We will gladly teach beginners the basics of this fascinating game.

Scrabble

Do you enjoy playing with words? Then join us for an evening spent poring over the Scrabble board and shunting letters around. No previous experience required, just a love of words.

Jass

A popular card game in Switzerland, some playing experience required.

Reading & Writing

English Book Club

Every month we choose an English language book together to read and then discuss (no more than 300 pages long). The group is a mixture of regulars and those who have read the book before and just drop in.

Spanish Book Club

We select and read six Spanish language books a year. Every two months we gather to discuss and share our points of view.

Thin Raft Writers

Bring your writing for review and constructive critique. Many of our members have published works including novels, children's books, poetry, non-fiction and short stories.

Fitness

Bowling

Everyone is welcome. No skills or minimum level of play are required. Casual, comfortable clothing is recommended. Cost per lane per hour (39.-) will be divided equally.

Yoga

Give your body and mind a chance to come closer together through the physical practice of Yoga. Bring your mat and join Marianna in the library for an hour dedicated to ourselves. No yoga experience required.

Centrepoint already has a large variety of activity groups, but if you have a passion and a group doesn't already exist, Centrepoint welcomes your involvement and is happy to support you in setting up a new group.
