Whether you're a fan of medieval times, a fantasy enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates a good festival, I've got some exciting news for you. The fourth Medieval and Fantasy Festival (Mittlealter-und Fantasy-Fest) is returning to Rheinfelden from June 22 to June 23, 2024.
This isn't just any festival, my friends. This is a weekend when Rheinfelden, the oldest town in the canton of Aargau, transforms into a medieval and fantasy wonderland. It's where the Middle Ages meet fantasy, where the streets are buzzing with excitement, and where every turn takes you to another delightful surprise. And believe me, there's plenty to see, taste, and experience!
Shopping
Over 45 market traders will display their wares, ranging from leather and furs to swords and jewelry. You'll also get a glimpse into the past by watching a blacksmith and a dyeing factory at work. It's like stepping back in time!
Kids Activities
And let's not forget about the kids. The festival offers a diverse programme for children. From a fairytale castle and face painting to axe throwing and archery for the older ones, this festival has something for every age group.
Shows
But that's not all. Prepare yourself for a spectacle of mock battles and camp life, games, juggling, and even fairy tale hours. And to top it all off, there's a fire show at Hauptwachtplatz around 10 p.m. on Saturday. It's the kind of experience that makes you forget you're in the 21st century.
Games
For those of you who are fans of Dungeons & Dragons, the Kapuzinerkirche will be hosting supervised role-playing games. Plus, you'll get to see walking acts with orcs, ravens, forest spirits, and Khajiit. It's fantasy come to life!
Food
And amidst all the excitement, don't forget to fill your stomachs. From a wood-fired bakery to meat skewers and vegan stews, there's a wide range of mouth-watering gastronomic delights. And of course, there's mead and waffles!
Rheinfelden's clubs and businesses also play a big part in the festival. The Viking club Alvitur Balti hosts a roaster and tavern, while the local choir Chortett has performances and a coffee shop. The sense of community is truly heartwarming.
So, dear folks from Basel, if you're up for a unique experience, make a trip to Rheinfelden this June. It's a hop, skip, and a jump away, and I assure you, it's well worth the journey. After all, where else can you get a taste of the Middle Ages and a fantasy world all in one place?
